pipe: A device that is used to smoke tobacco where the tobacco is held and lit in a small bowl and the smoke is inhaled through a thin stem through a mouthpiece.

secondhand smoke: Smoke that is inhaled by persons who do not smoke but are close to people who are smoking.

sidestream smoke: Smoke that comes from tobacco products that are lit. For example, the smoke from a lit cigarette in an ashtray is sidestream smoke.

smoke: Particles, vapors and gases that are emitted into the air during the combustion, or burning, process.

smokeless tobacco: Can be either inhaled in the form of snuff, chewed in the form of chewing tobacco or dipped.

snuff: Powdered tobacco that is inhaled into the nose rather than smoked.

stroke: Bleeding in the brain or a blockage in an artery in the brain that can result in brain damage or death.
